Here’s a great idea for kids young and old. It takes just a few minutes to make this mini-kite, and it really does fly!

Mini-Kite Directions:

  1. Print out the pattern for your kite by printing this page.
  2. Place your tissue paper on top of the pattern and trace the outlines carefully.
  3. Cut out the diamond-shaped kite from one color of tissue paper.
  4. Cut out the wedge from another color of tissue paper
  5. Cut out two strips for the tails, both need to be about 4 1⁄2 feet long, and 1⁄2 inch wide. You can glue several strips together to make a long one. Try making one out of each of the colors.
  6. Carefully glue the two straws to the back of the kite part, forming a cross. You may need one that’s longer than the other.
  7. Carefully fold over a 1⁄4 inch strip on the long side of your wedge, then glue it to the kite part
  8. Glue the tails onto the bottom of the kite.
  9. Glue the end of your sewing thread to the end of the wedge.

Make sure the glue is dry before you take your kite out to the wind. Be careful with your kite. It’s made out of tissue paper, so stay away from trees and power lines! And don’t try to fly a kite in the rain!

And get out and have some fun, and have fun with the wind!

What you’ll need:

• Several sheets of tissue paper (use bright colors if you can!)

• 2 drinking straws

• Scissors

• Glue

• Sewing thread
