Don't you just love the sound of rain? It's a beautiful sound that says that God is watering the earth and all the plants, and it really makes the air smell clean, too!

Here’is a way you can have the sound of rain anytime you want it. It’is called a rainstick, and it’is really fairly easy to make!

Directions:

  1. First we’re going to make a “cap” for our tube. Start by making a 4 inch circle on your brown paper bag, using a cereal bowl turned upside down on your paper and tracing around it.
  2. Place your cardboard tube on end in the middle of this circle, and draw around it. You will now have two circles inside each other.
  3. Draw 12 spokes between the two circles.
  4. Cut along the outside circle, then cut along the spokes.
  5. Now make another “cap” just like this one by following steps 1-4 again.
  6. Put glue on the spokes and cap one end of your cardboard tube – making sure that there is no room for the seeds to leak out.
  7. Cut a piece of aluminum foil that’s 6 inches wide and about 1-1⁄2 times the length of your cardboard tube.
  8. Crunch the aluminum foil until it makes a long, thin rope shape.
  9. Break the long aluminum rope in half and twist each one into a spring shape.
  10. Put the aluminum “springs” into your tube, then pour your rice and small beans into your tube. You should fill only about 1/10 of your tube with this mixture.
  11. Now glue your other cap on (being careful to make sure the rice and beans won’t leak out).
  12. Decorate your rainstick by gluing pretty wrapping paper around it.
  13. Enjoy the wonderful sounds, and remember that God made the rain!
