Hey Kids, here’s a great way to make some pretty jewels with some very basic ingredients. As always, be sure to spread out newspapers over your table or working area, so you won’t get glue all over everything, ok? It might be a good idea to ask your parents to help you, too!

|
What You Need:
|
|
|
- newspaper
- 1/2 cup white glue
- 2 cups rock salt
- 6 to 8 drops food coloring (pick your favorite color)
- wax paper
- bowl
- spoon
- plastic cookie cutters (any shape or size)
Hint: You can mix smaller batches and use different colors, too! Try adding glitter to a batch (not too much – you still want to be able to see the rock salt.)

What You Do:
|
|
|
- Spread out your newspapers on your working surface
- Mix your food coloring and rock salt in a mixing bowl.
- Add the glue and keep mixing it all up for a couple of minutes.
- Spread out some wax paper and start molding the mixture into any shape you want.
- If you want to shape it with cookie cutters, just spoon in the mixture, making sure your cookie cutter is on wax paper, so your “jewels” won’t stick to the surface.
- Wait for the glue to dry. Drying time will depend on the thickness and size of the “jewel.” (Be patient!)
- Pop the “jewels” out of the cookie cutters
- You can glue a piece of string to the back of the “jewel” and hang it up somewhere so the light sparkles on it, too.
