“Hey kids, here are some cool facts about turtles in general!
Did you know that turtles belong to the reptile family? That’s right, they’re kissing cousins with snakes! And speaking of snakes, did you know that a snake-neck turtle’s neck is as long as it’s body? Wow! Amazingly, a turtle can live up to a year without food, too! (But don’t forget to feed your pet turtle because they do get hungry!)
Here’s a really neat craft you can make with just some rocks, glue and paint. It’s not like a real pet turtle, but it can be your “pet rock” turtle!

What You Need:
- a medium (smooth) rock
- 5 small pebbles
- strong craft glue
- tempera paint
What You Do:
- Choose a smooth medium-sized rock for your turtle’s shell
- Find 4 smooth pebbles that can serve as feet
- Find 1 smooth pebble that’s slightly larger than the feet for your turtle’s head
- Glue the “feet” rocks to your turtle’s “body” using strong glue. Make sure the glue is dry before you proceed
- Glue the larger “head” rock in place. Let the glue thoroughly dry
- It’s time to paint your turtle! Paint his face, and any designs you may want. And since your turtle’s your creation, paint him (or her) any color you want—even pink with purple polka-dots!
- For an extra-fancy turtle, try putting a little glue on it’s shell and sprinkling glitter on it!
- Make several and give them to your friends!
