What you do:
|
|
|
- Lay out half-pages of newspaper (one for each color) in an area where it won’t be disturbed for awhile.
- Pour half a cup of salt into a Ziploc bag and add several drops of food coloring (more food coloring will make a more brilliant color).
- Close the bag tightly, after making sure that most of the air is out. Then use your fingers to squish the salt around, mixing in the food coloring thoroughly.
- Pour the salt out in a thin layer on the newspaper and let it thoroughly dry.
- Repeat this for each color on separate pieces of newspaper. When all colors are dry, pick up the papers one at a time and pour the salt back into the plastic bags (you can use an empty egg carton if you wish).
- Now mix up two tablespoons of glue with two tablespoons of water in your plastic cup (you can always make more if you need it).
- Use a pencil to draw the design you want on the construction paper, and then lay it in the tray.
- Use the paintbrush to paint (glue) the areas where you want. But remember to paint only the areas you want the first color to stick to.
- Sprinkle the first color salt with your fingers over the first glue areas. Wait a few minutes to allow the salt to stick well, then shake the paper lightly over the tray to get rid of the extra salt. Pour that back into your Ziploc bag, and then repeat steps 8 and 9 with your next color. When you’re done, be sure to let it dry thoroughly, then give it as a gift, or enjoy it for yourself!
