Want to keep your garden free of unwanted bugs? Why not build a Toad Town, and invite your friendly toads to move in? And while we can’t guarantee that they will, it’s a lot of fun making Toad Townhouses—if nothing else, they’re a fun garden decoration!
  What You Need:
  • medium and/or large sized empty cans, or clay pots, margarine tubs
  • plastic plant saucer
  • outdoor paints
  • paint brush
  • smooth stone
  • colored aquarium gravel (optional)
  What You Do:

Make sure there are not sharp edges on your empty cans, and that they are clean and dry. Spread out some newspaper, and paint them in interesting designs. Remember, half of the can or container will be buried, so just paint the part that will be above the ground. You can paint windows, or whatever you want on the Toad Townhouses! Let the paint dry thoroughly. Clean up your mess when you’re done.

Find a moist and shady spot in your garden for your Toad Town, and bury your container so only half of it is showing. Fill the inside halfway with dirt, so your toad has soft dirt to sit on.

Use the plastic plant saucer as a pool by burying it flush to the ground. Put a layer of colored aquarium gravel in it for a nice touch. Then place the smooth stone in the middle of the pool so your frog can sunbathe if it wants too! If you don’t have a plastic plant saucer, you can also dig a hole and line it with plastic. It will work just fine.

If you want to, you can put a little welcome sign out! Then watch for signs that the toads have moved into your neighborhood! You never know—they just might come!
