First let’s make the momma duck. Since most domestic ducks are Pekin ducks, the adult is
always white. Of course, you can make the ducks any color you want, so have fun
with it!
- Trace the outline of your hands on the white construction paper.
- Cut out the hand shapes (for the duck tail)
- Fold the large paper plate in half.
- Staple the hands on top of each other and near one end of the paper
plate (this will be the duck tail)
- Cut out a 3 inch circle out of the other piece of construction paper
(this is the duck head)
- Cut out an elongated oval out of the orange construction paper (this
will be the duck’s bill). Cut one end off, and bend a tab over (this will
be where you glue it to the duck’s head)
- Glue the duck bill to the duck head by putting glue on the tab, so
the bill sticks out a bit from the head
- Draw the ducks eyes (or glue googly eyes)
- Staple the head near the fold line, opposite the tail feathers. You
can staple it under the bill so the staple won’t show
- Draw the duck’s feet by making two ovals, then drawing a
zigzag at one end of each oval (these will be the toenails). Make sure to leave
a short strip of paper connecting the two feet. This will help your duck stand
up. Your feet should measure 3 to 4 inches from one side to the other
- Fold the paper where the feet meet the middle strip
- Staple each foot to the bottom of each side of the paper plate,
right along the bottom, and right along the fold of each foot.
Optional: Now that you have a Momma duck, why not try your hand at some
ducklings? You can make them by drawing smaller hands and using a smaller paper
plate for each of them. You will need to color your ducklings yellow, with your
crayons, markers or paint. Have fun!
