Hey kids, here’s a great craft you can make with some construction paper and some melted crayon wax! But be sure to have your parents help you with the iron part, ok?
  What you need:
  • a sheet of black construction paper
  • a piece of wax paper
  • glue
  • yellow, orange, red, green and brown crayons
  • a warm iron (requires adult supervision)
  • scissors
  What you do:
1. Cut two 5 x 5 squares out of your black construction paper.

2. Put them on top of each other, and trace a fall leaf (maples are pretty) on the top one. It’s probably good to put the lead in the diagonal, so you have more room.

3. Cut the pattern out of both pieces so they match up.

4. Using all the colors, shave your crayons onto a piece of wax paper (that’s bigger than 5 x 5). Put enough shavings on it so that when you melt it, it will be solid (no gaps).

5. Here’s where you need an adult to supervise, ok?
Put another piece of wax paper over the first, and using a slightly warm (NOT HOT) iron, melt the crayons until you have a solid “blob” of crayon wax. Let the crayons cool until they harden.

6. Place one of your black squares down on the table. Glue your waxpaper/crayon “glass” onto it, and trim the edges. Then glue the second black square over crayon “glass,” making sure the leaf patterns line up.

7. Attach a small loop of string or yarn to one of the corners (nearest the “stem” of your leaf). Using a little suction cup with a hook, hang it on the window so the sun can stream through it.

Enjoy!
