Have you ever wondered what those doggie treats are made of? You might be surprised! Here’s a really cool recipe you can make that your dog will love (and it’s good for him, too!) CAUTION: You’ll need a grown-up’s help with the hot water and the oven! Be careful not to get burned!

|
What You Need:
|
|
|
- ¼ cup hot water
- 8 vegetarian bouillon cubes – chicken or beef flavored
- 1 package dry yeast
- 1 ½ cups tomato juice
- 2 cups white flour, divided
- 2 cups wheat germ
- 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
- You’ll also need a large mixing bowl, a kneading board, and a rolling pin.

What You Do:
|
|
|
- Place your bouillon cubes in a large mixing bowl and add the hot water.
- Mash up the bullion cubes with a fork, and then sprinkle the yeast over them. Let it stand for about 5 minutes until the yeast is dissolved.
- Add the tomato juice, half the white flour, and the wheat germ.
- Stir it all up until it forms a smooth batter.
- Gradually work in the remaining white flour and whole wheat flour with your hands.
- Sprinkle some flour on a board, divide your dough into 4 balls, and roll each one out on a floured board to about 1/4" thick.
- Cut the down into any shape you’d like (cookie cutters can be fun!) and place them on ungreased cookie sheets about an inch apart.
- Bake in a 325ºF oven for 1 hour, and then turn off the heat and let biscuits dry in the oven for about 4 hours, or overnight with the door propped open slightly.
- Store your Veggie Doggie Treats in airtight containers, and your doggie will think he’s pretty special!
