Hey Kids, here’s a great idea for making candles that look like
they have jewels all over them! But don’t try this alone! Be sure to get
an adult to supervise you, because you’re going to be working with hot
water on a stove, ok?

|
Here's what you need:
|
|
|
- a medium sized candle (it can be square, or round)
- several old colored candles for chunks
- a sauce pan
- a small can
- a teaspoon
- paper towels
- a sharp knife

|
Here's what you do:
|
|
|
- Cut your old colored candles into small chunks – making sure
that they don’t have the wick in them. You’ll have to cut them with
a sharp knife, so please ask for an adult to help you.
- Fill the sauce pan 1/2 full of water and place it over medium-low
heat. Put a small tin can inside the sauce pan, and fill the can with water
almost to the top. Remember, you need to have an adult supervise you!
- When the water inside the can is hot, place one small chunk of
colored candle in your teaspoon and dip it into the hot water for between 3 and
5 seconds. Your water is hot enough if it’s enough to melt the outside
surface of the chunk of wax. Take it out with your spoon, and place it on the
paper towel for just a second (enough to drain off the excess water. It will be
warm but not hot. While it’s still soft, press it firmly onto your bigger
candle. Do this with all your chunks until your bigger candle is completely
covered with the chunks placed next to each other. Bring your candle to the
dinner table – it’s a great way to remember that we are all
God’s jewels and we are precious in His sight!
