Remember the wise men who gave Joseph and Mary special gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh when they came to see baby Jesus? Well, here’s an idea of how to make a special Treasure Gift Box to give to someone really special this holiday season, and it’s pretty easy to make!
  What You Need:
  • Shoebox
  • Paint
  • Brush
  • Tape
  • Fake “gems” (optional)
  • Glitter (optional)
  • String or colored yarn (optional)
  What You Do:
  1. Cover your working area with newspapers so you won’t get paint on anything but your box and your brush!
  2. Paint your box with your favorite color (tempera paint works best, but you can use other types of paint).
  3. Using a darker color, paint decorations onto your Treasure Box, like straps or a lock. Then paint a keyhole, and some studs to make it look sturdy and old. Be creative! It’s your Treasure Box.
  4. After the paint dries, you can put some tape on the inside of the box and the inside of the lid to make it open like a treasure chest. If you don’t have any tape, it’s ok. It will still be special all the same.
  5. You can add special touches to your box by gluing glitter or fake “gems” to the outside, too.
  6. Use some string or colored yarn to hold it shut by cutting off a piece about 5 inches long and gluing it to the top of the box. Then take another piece of the same length and glue it to the box so you can tie them together in a bow.
  7. If you’d like to make the inside look special, you can always use some pretty tissue paper, or even some scraps of pretty fabric your mom might have around. Be creative, and enjoy the wonderful feeling of giving gifts! Remember that Jesus gave us the best gift of all when He came and died for us. Because of that we can live with Him forever and ever!
