Here’s a great idea for a craft that’s pretty and gives off a pretty light during your cold dark winter months! Be sure to have an adult help you, and be very careful where you place it, since candles are a fire hazard, and melted wax can ruin furniture!

What You Need:
- tin can (small or medium size is usually best)
- nail
- hammer
- galvanized wire
- pliers
- candle
- oil-based enamel paint (optional)
What You Do:
- Soak and wash your can, removing all the label and glue.
- Fill can with water and put it in your freezer.
- When the water turns to solid ice, take it out and use your nail and hammer to poke holes in it.
- Use holes to make designs in the can. They will shine a pattern of light when the candle is lit.
- Make sure you poke enough holes in the can so a good amount of light comes out.
- Punch two holes on opposite sides of the can near the top.
- Bend the wire for the handle through the holes, using pliers.
- You can paint the outside of your lantern with oil-based enamel paints if you want to. Be creative!
- Place the candle in it and light it.
- Be sure to hang it in a safe place, and enjoy the pretty light on a cold winter night!
